I work with Tides Canada to help accelerate Canada’s transition to a prosperous, safe, and healthy society that overwhelmingly meets its energy needs with clean and renewable energy.
This is my personal blog, where I write on a wide range of climate-change solutions, including complete, compact, and walkable communities, renewable energy, sustainable transportation, carbon pricing policy and more. I have a particular personal interest in green buildings and neighbourhoods. In 2008, I built a sustainably designed studio in my front yard. The 280-square-foot building features extensive FSC-certified and reclaimed lumber, and many energy efficient features and design strategies. O At Home magazine and a variety of modern-design blogs have covered the building, in connection with my critically acclaimed 2008 comic memoir Almost Green.
My background is primarily media and communications, and includes staff-editor positions at Outside magazine and Wired News, and communications consulting for initiatives such as the TckTckTck global campaign for climate action. I’m active in my own community, where I also serve on the Advisory Planning Commission.
