The Start of A New Adventure
Posted: August 9th, 2010 | Author: James Glave | Filed under: About Me, Energy, Fossil Fuel, Global Warming, Renewable Energy | 5 Comments »I am delighted to let you all know that I have accepted a full-time position with Tides Canada, a national foundation tackling a wide range of social and ecological challenges. To quote our boilerplate, “we pool the best ideas, strategies, people, and capital to achieve the greatest impacts on the key environmental and social issues of our time.”
In my case, the issue in question is climate, and the solution is energy. I’ll be working with the gifted Merran Smith—the former climate director of ForestEthics—on the recently established Tides Canada Energy Initiative. My role in part is to support, advance, and help host productive conversations around low-carbon energy, to diversify Canada’s energy system and advance climate solutions.
It’s an ambitious project, and will call for plenty of collaboration, engagement, outreach, and plain-old-fashion hard work. I’ll be wearing multiple hats as we work to get this thing going, and look forward to immersing myself in a wide range of responsibilities and work areas including philanthropy, policy research, strategic development, and more.
I’ll be building on my core communications skills, and immersing myself even deeper in material I am already fairly obsessed with. I’ll also get to roll up my sleeves alongside some pretty bright, funny, and positive people. In sum, it’s a chance to really make a difference. The job is based in Vancouver, and starts tomorrow.
Somebody pinch me.
Congratulations James.
Both sides in this deal are lucky indeed !
